This is from House In Progress.
1) What has been the most challenging aspect of your house project?
Having to realize that it doesn't all get done as quickly as I had hoped. I thought Rob and I would have everything fixed and done within a couple of months. Real life is not like "This Old House". I don't have Norm Abram as my master carpenter, and I don't have a crew of guys working on 100 projects all at once. But considering it's pretty much just me, Rob and Lily, I think we're making good time.
2) Regrets? We all have regrets about certain projects in our renovation files. Do you have any regrets about anything like "I wish we'd done this first" or "not bought that" or something?
Rob wishes that while we had the ceiling torn out of the parlor [which is below the upstairs master bath] that he had replaced all the plumbing.
I still wish I hadn't given away the awesome retro stove and refrigerator from the 2nd kitchen. Looking back, they were way cooler than the stove & fridge we kept.
3) What's the most common statement people make when they see the house for the first time? What part tend to impress them most? Least?
People cannot believe the changes in the house. When we bought it, the walls were all tan, and the trim was yellowish. We've brought color into the house. People also really like the woodwork around the windows. And that it has a back staircase.
I think what impresses them the least is the kitchen. We're working on that one though.
